Guides such as David, Darwin, Luis, Carlos, and Marco have been praised for patience, safety help, and local insight. Expect a demanding high-altitude hike.

“This was the most amazing experience. David was an experienced, knowledgeable and highly supportive guide. This is quite challenging given the altitude but with David’s expertise we managed, and thoroughly enjoyed, the day. Rainbow Mountain is really great but the Red Valley blew us away. The Agency were very responsive, communicative and helpful. Would highly recommend this tour.”

“Escursione? Sostanzialmente è stato un servizio di transfer. Nessuna spiegazione dalla guida che non ci ha seguiti durante il tragitto. Inoltre, si è persa un turista causando un ora di ritardo a tutto il gruppo. Infine, non è stato dato il tempo per visitare la red valley.”

Your guide handles transport, breakfast, lunch, hiking poles, and altitude support. Groups are limited to eight, with private guiding for bookings made after November 3, 2025.

“We had a fantastic time exploring Palcoyo, thanks to our experienced guide, Jesús Carrion. The tour started promptly, and Jesús took great care of us throughout the day. Although the walk to Palcoyo, also known as the alternative Rainbow Mountain, was relatively easy and moderate, the high altitude of 4900m caused my husband to feel short of breath. Jesús made a concerted effort to ensure his well-being while also keeping an eye on the rest of the group. Compared to Vinicunca, Palcoyo was noticeably less crowded, and it offered breathtaking views of three rainbow mountains, the red valley, and the stone forest. Unfortunately, we had to skip the stone forest…”

“This was such a cool tour! The sites were amazing and the guides knew all the best spots for photos. Both guides had great personalities that made the tour a lot of fun. We especially had fun with Stephen, since we ended up hiking with him to the red valley. That was worth the extra hike. It was not as crowded as the rainbow mountain hike but still an awesome view. The buffet breakfasts and lunches had good food as well!”

“We opted to visit Palccoyo , the lesser known Rainbow Mountain. The hike is a bit shorter and easier, but you still reach 5000 m. I recommend this hike, his particular mountain, if you are unsure if you can do the longer hike in this altitude. It is a very beautiful hike and a must-do.”

The small group, included transfers, meals, entrance fee, and optional Red Valley walk make this a practical but demanding day trip.

“This tour is very clearly advertised as a private tour as says "On this private tour from Cusco, see the colorful strata after a moderately difficult hike." When I got to Cusco the tour company called at night to let me know this was not a private tour and I had to pay extra if I wanted a private tour. When I complained they said that's how viator had set it up. I have complained to Viator twice and have asked them to correct the mistake on their page and still no change. They did however provide a partial refund. Since there was not time to book another tour we…”

You will walk uphill for 40 to 50 minutes at about 5,000 meters, then visit Checacupe’s colonial bridge and eat a local buffet lunch. Jenny and Luis are named as an excellent guide and driver team.

“This mountain area is spectacular. It perhaps should be known as Rainbow Mountain 2 as it is not the one of instagram fame but I believe this experience far surpasses that one from what I’ve heard. This is a an amazing area with terraced mountains, free Alpaca roaming and painted mountains. It surpasses my expectation. I would recommend this trip to anyone if nature is what you’re after and not a tourist nightmare;) Be aware that It is remote and gravel road for a large part of it. A shout out to Jenny our guide and Luis our driver. They were both charming, easygoing and excellent.”
