Tambopata Peruvian Amazon Jungle for Three Days/Two Nights

1.Tambopata Peruvian Amazon Jungle for Three Days/Two Nights

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 329 reviews · 3 days · from $350Our pick

Spend three days in Tambopata with boat rides, canopy ziplining, rainforest walks, Lake Sandoval, night wildlife searches, and a clay lick visit. English or Spanish guides such as Ivan, Samuel, Saay, and Franklin have led trips, while the simple lodge offers meals, screened rooms, and a real break from city life.

“Definitly worth it! It was an unforgettable experience. There is a useful wifi in the main area, so you can use internet during daytime. At night, all electricity and internet is cut. There was no wild insect inside the room during the nights, that helps you sleep without worry. Of course it wasn’t very comfy (there was no hot water at all), but anyway i think lacking of standard things makes the experience better.”

Groups stay at eight people, with guides such as Andres, Carlos, Romario, and Tito praised for sharp animal spotting and strong Amazon knowledge. Expect basic facilities and limited electricity.

“Little activities in between a lot of down time and probably an ease of time. 4 days could have easily been done in 2. Not too many animals to see. The lodging was not t organized well. No power or water or internet most times. The food was ok, but not really enough for everyone there. Not a real jungle adventure.”

5.2-Day All Inclusive Guided Jungle Tour from Iquitos at Maniti Eco-Lodge

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 62 reviews · 2 days (approx.) · from $295

Leave Iquitos at 8:30 am for two full days of Amazon exploration at Maniti Eco-Lodge on Monkey Island. You’ll ride jungle waterways, look for pink dolphins, fish for piranha, hike after dark, visit giant ceiba trees and a Yagua community, and sleep in a private room with mosquito nets. Guides may include Segundo, Edwin, Alfredo, or others.

“The tour is too expensive. You get basically the same for half the money or less if you book it in Iquitos. There are also more than enough tours, so you don't have to worry about not finding one there. And head flashlights are not even included, they are sold to you when you arrive at the meeting point, which I think is rude, considering you pay 250$ pp. Nevertheless, our tour guide was very competent and nice (Linder, young man who was born and raised in an indigeneous tribe in the jungle). Unfortunately we couldn't go on the night excursion, because of the heavy rainfall.”

You’ll cross from the high Andes to the warm Urubamba valley by bike, raft, foot, and zipline, then reach Machu Picchu after a forest hike and train ride. The small group is capped at 15. Expect basic hostels, long walking days, and extra costs for Machu Picchu entry, buses, hot springs, and optional Huayna Picchu.

“Really enjoyed the Adventure Hike, lots of pros with only a few cons, see below breakdown of the 4 days (I travelled early June 2024), some tips and a packing list of what to take. Day 1, Bike and Raft: Bike was great fun, very easy/beginner friendly as mostly downhill but get to pick up some speed while catching the views. Rafting was excellent with a few decent rapids. Accommodation was terrible, very basic shared hostel with only cold water shower (not ideal after rafting), food was average but didn't go hungry. Day 2, Hike: I'd class myself intermediate hiker and I found it pretty easy, there's a few hills…”

“Very exciting experience. Modern accommodations for the room, dining, pool, etc. Also a nice taste of the jungle with the rooms right on the edge of the forest. The activities are spaced nicely apart, so there is down time to just relax and take it in. Not a primatve lodge like some others. Bring picaridin wipes for the mosquitos in the evening, and sunscreen for midday. Electricity was on for at least 6 hours everyday generator. Our guide for the 3 days was Victor, and he was top notch. Completely bi-lingual, thoroughly enjoys the river and jungle, and very knowledgeable. Keeps everyone perfectly safe. Bring extra soles peruvian dollars 3:1…”

“The route was good, but the organization could have been better. Our pre-departure meeting was first delayed, then improvised in Spanish, after me and my friend had been to the agency twice on the same day. the pick up the next day was one hour late, despite the fact that the agency assured us we would have been the first ones to be picked up, since our hotel was out of the city center. generally pick ups in Peru were quite punctuals, that was the only time we had to wait. when the driver arrived, he didnt greet us or apologized for the wait. at the time of booking we…”

It’s the perfect combination of hiking and experiencing the culture of the Inca-period and Machu Picchu, but it is also great fun and you get a great adrenaline rush from the cycling, zip-lining and white water rafting. The value for money is also phenomenal given everything that is included. The best part about the tour was our guide, Wilbert. He was so knowledgeable about everything we saw over the four days and took us to meet some local families in the mountains and at various points throughout the trip. He was an excellent photographer,…”
